Golf

This sport still is, because of the costs, for the èlite and you won`t find too many places to play. You can practice golf in St. Jordi and Cambrils, southern of Tarragona.

Tennis

It has lost a bit of it's popularity over the last 10 years. But it never will lose it's attractivity. In all larger villages you will find tennis courts, where you can easily rent for hours. In Tortosa we have one of the better clubs with cinder-courts, that are better for your articulations than the hard courts, you will normally find everywhere. In Tortosa they celebrate every year an international championship for the ladies. Of course there are also possibilities to learn by the assistence of a qualified instructor. Have a look at the following website to find the: Clubs in the province of Tarragona.

Football

As well as football has a great tradition in Great Britain so it is in Spain. In nearly every larger village you will find a stadion, where either you may watch or even play, if you fit into the team. If you like to see great football, the  FC Barcelona is not too far away, only about 200 km, the same distance as to the famous club of Valencia.

Light athletics

You can practice in the stadions, but, you normally will find hard pathes. The unit of measurement is in meters.

Water sports

The Costa Dorada is a privileged area in Spain with many opportunities to spend your spare time. The proximity of the coast permits not only all the hobbies on land but also all the maritime hobbies, too. As there are: swimming, snorkeling, surfing, sailing, motor boating, water-ski and fishing.

Swimming / Snorkeling

The nice beaches with clear water invite you to snorkel and swim in. All the villages in the coast have beaches with more or less fine sand. The largest beaches can be found in the Ebro Delta. These beaches are many kilometers long and 20 meters or more wide, without interruption. During the summertime the water is pleasingly warm, up to 26ºC, and it is clean and clear.

Diving

In the marinas you can book diving instruction or diving trips. The underwater world is not the same as in the Red Sea, but you will find some nice places to dive, that are well known to the diving scools and will give you enough reasons to come back.

 Sailing

You will find nice and well built marina, inviting you to own a sail boat in the following villages: St. Carles de la Ràpita, Ampolla, St. Jordi, L’Hospitalet de l’Infant and Cambrils. The weather is usually quite pleasant to really enjoy sailing in the sea.

 Windsurfing

The prevailing westerly winds let the gulf of St. Jordi be a real wind surf area. While offshore for the coast, the winds in Riumar are port side.  That means low waves or no waves what makes speed surfing possible. What a pity that few people have heard of this spot, so unfortunately there is no surfing scool or equipment rental available. Every surfer should bring his own equipment.

 Motor boating /  Water-skiing

Just as for sailing boats the marinas  are good for motor boats. In the summer months, when the winds have subsided, it is the perfect time to explore the sea in a motor boat. The sea is flat like a mirror and you can go very fast in the boats. If you are interested, the calm conditions of the oceans during this time of year are perfect for waterskiing, add some skies to the boat and off you go, pure pleasure. There aren't any better conditions anywhere.

Fishing

The Costa Dorada is similar to most of the coastal areas of the world, with beaches that can change from sandy to rocky every kilometer. At many places, where the rocks aren't too high, it is easy to fish using fishing rods. The quantity of fish is great enough to not go home, frustrated. You can either fish from a moving boat or drop anchor and deep sea fish. The first method, moving, is the better one, when you go for tuna, swordfish or dorades. Those will challenge you for a fight. Still allowed is fishing with harpoon under water, naturally snorkeling and not scuba diving. Play fair: give the fish a chance!

You can go fishing in the river, the Ebro. Your best catch in the rivers are carps and catfish ! But, the Ebrodelta is also famous for it's smoked eel. Many guests only come for the fishing and for eating the fish, especially eel.
